A.       What Is Recommended For Children's Oral Hygiene?
In general, the parents should always brush their child's teeth until they are about 5 to 8 years old. Parents should continue to supervise their children's brushing until the age 10 to 12. Brushing should be done for atleast 2-3 minutes minimum twice a day.

B.           What If My Child Wants To Brush Himself?
Brushing is a skill and it takes time to learn it and properly follow it. If your child wants to do it himself, then always encourage him but always make sure that you brush his teeth after he's done. For older children aged 10 to 12 years, make sure that you supervise them. Be there when your child brushes his teeth and make sure that he/she is doing it well and enjoying it.
C.       What Are Other Advices For Parents To Look After?
The diet of your kid is very important for his Oral Health. We suggest a diet with minimal intake of sugar and lots of fibrous food like fruits to avoid cavities. The junk food not only is bad for the teeth, but also to the health of your child, as weight gain, mood disorders are related to poor choice of food in early stages. Be careful with the food choices you make for them.
Here Are Five Things You Should Know About Your Little One’s Teeth;
·         You should start brushing/ cleaning your child's teeth as soon as first tooth erupts (appear in the mouth).
·         Fluoride toothpaste is recommended twice daily.
·         Brush in a circular motion with a soft bristled toothbrush of age-wise size.
·         When they can hold a brush well, your child can start brushing themselves. Supervision and assistance is needed for all children as brushing is a skill and children don’t generally master this skill so early, in some cases till adolescence.
·         While visiting your pediatric dentist, they can demonstrate the right technique of brushing so to make the process quicker while still efficient.
·         With proper Oral Care, tooth decay is largely preventable. Yet, more and more children around kindergarten age suffer from cavities and tooth decay. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), tooth decay remains to be the most common chronic disease of children aged 6 to 11 years and adolescents aged 12 to 19 years. It is also four times more common than asthma among adolescents aged 14 to 17 years.
Ways Keep Your Children’s Teeth and Gums, Healthy and Strong
1.      Never put your child to sleep with a bottle of juice, formula or milk in their mouth. As when the baby sleeps, the salivary flow decreases making the perfect time for harmful sugary liquids to collect around the teeth and invite cavities.
2.      Don’t let your child walk around with a sippy cup – unless until they only contain water.
3.      Brush your child’s teeth twice a day, two minutes each time, with fluoride toothpaste..
4.      Make sure your child maintains a healthy and well-balanced diet. If your child asks for a snack, choose nutritious foods like fruits high in fiber rather than cookies or candies.
5.      See your Pediatric Dentist as soon as his first tooth pops out. It is also recommended for your child to see an orthodontist by the age of seven years old.
